The resort was gorgeous. It was a 5 star all inclusive resort. It felt really strange at first eating and drinking and then just getting up and walking away without paying for a bill but I soon got used to that. And I am glad we saved up the extra and went to a 5 star resort. The food was great. We were told by our friends not to expect much from Cuban food but I really didn't care. If I didn't have to cook it or clean up after I was perfectly happy. But I have to say the food was pretty good. The buffet there reminded me of a casino buffet. They had something for everyone and it was perfectly fine. I couldn't get enough of the salmon there for some reason. It was soo good. I just wanted to take plates of it back to my room and eat it all night.
The staff were great to. Very helpful and friendly. The entertainment staff loved the BF as he was always getting up and playing games. He had a lot of fun to. Its interesting because over 50% of the Cuban economy is from the tourist industry. So they take great care of their tourist in order to make sure they come back (and it works cause I would love to go back there).
We stayed in Cayo Santa Marie and went on a day trip tour to Santa Claire. One of the oldest towns in Cuba and the town where the final battle of the Cuban revolution was. Cubans take their leaders and revolution very seriously and we respected that. Actually we learnt a lot about their history from the people themselves. There are of course many poor people of Cuba and we saw much of that.
In the town of Santa Claire we went into the oldest church in Cuba. A Little run down church but gorgeous.
Another one of our day trips we went to the local dolphin centre and got to play and frolic with the dolphins. That was a lot of fun. Followed by some snorkeling, which was also a lot of fun...
Besides the two day trips we spend most of our time either by the beach or pool during the day and at night, sitting in the lounge area enjoying a few drinks and watching the entertainment provided. It was a great relaxing trip.
The BF and I actually caught up on most of our talking and believe it or not, but caught up on talking about our financial issues. Everything from our debts to our future plans for purchases (including a new car and travelling more). Once again the BF got the travel bug and wants to travel more. He also told me that his friends referred us to the most well travelled couple they know. Which is a pretty good status if you ask me. The BF credits that to our savings plan (well he did say it was me but he helped by working LOL). I said it was both of ours and hopefully we can keep it up and keep going on our goals..
Over all the trip was amazing, great and well deserved. The best part of the whole trip is that its completely paid for.. none of it went on credit card and the pay cheque we got while we were away paid for the money we borrowed from our other savings account. Meaning Cuba is paid and done.. I love that feeling.
I have attached a couple of photos to give you an idea of our trip. Again as this is an anonymous blog I haven't attached any with my face (or my BF's face).. going through the pictures though I admit I did take a lot of pictures of my feet...
teehee.. enjoy
